While the President has put the country billions and billions of dollars in debt, the democrats in Washington have consistently balanced the budget and even put money aside in a rainy day fund. They even balanced the budget during tough years like 2003 when the state had a $2 billion shortfall.
But, Republicans at the state level want to follow in the President’s footsteps by leaving giant holes in the state budget without any way to pay for it. Yesterday, Rep. Judy Warnick proposed Amendment #486 to the transportation budget. This would strip out all sales taxes from transportation projects leaving anywhere from a $70 million to $200 million hole in the state’s general operating budget.
So, Judy…what are you going to cut? Public Education? Long-Term Care? Pensions? Public Lands?
It is incredibly irresponsible to propose cutting up to $200 million out of the state budget without telling us what programs you want to cut.
Remember, that’s how President Bush left us in the largest federal deficit in the history of the United States.
