We will continue to hear from Republicans that we need to support our troops. Of course we do.
We will also hear that we want the Middle East to be stable. That’s right.
What we don’t hear from Republicans is any complaining about the incompetency of the people in charge.
The intelligence for going into the Iraq War was completely flawed. The number of troops we put on the ground was insufficient. The diplomacy with other nations was blundered. The Chief Of Staff for the Vice-President leaked the name of a CIA agent. That’s just to name a few mistakes.
So, how does Doc Hastings fit into the picture?
Congress is supposed to provide oversight. Has anyone ever heard Doc Hastings say one word critical of the President for the handling of our foreign policy? While the Republicans were in control of Congress, did Doc Hastings ever say we should look at this war and see why it’s going so wrong?
Get ready. If Doc Hastings gets a challenge in 2008, we are going to hear over and over from Doc that we need to support our troops and we need a stable middle east. It’s a smokscreen.
We really need a competent President who understands foreign policy (including diplomacy!) and a Congressional Representative from central Washington who will hold that President accountable.
Oh, it might be good if our Representative actually got out in the district once in awhile too.
