Kittitas County is looking for a little economic development help from the state legislature this year. Specifically, they want $3.8 million to start a horse park in Cle Elum. You can read about it here.
To quote Sen. Holmquist, ” The funding is crucial, she said, because once it is approved Suncadia will release a donation of 106 acres on the west side of Cle Elum for the park that will lead to site development and initial construction this year.”
Unfortunately, Senator Holmquist has gone out of her way to attack Democratic legislators and their priorities for the last several weeks. You can read some of her partisan attacks here.
Now, Senator Holmquist and Representative Hinkle can’t seem to get enough support for the horse park. In fact, it did not make it into the Senate’s version of the Capital Budget.
It’s a good project. It would really benefit upper Kittitas County. If Sen. Holmquist had spent more time working across the aisle to get this into the Capital Budget instead of attacking other legislators, we may have a new horse park.
Our only choice is to work around her. The Senate and House have to conference and come up with a final budget.
Call Rep. Bill Fromhold (House Capital Budget Chair) and Sen. Karen Fraser (Senate Ways And Means Vice-Chair in charge of the Capital Budget) at 1-800-562-6000.
I would start by apologizing for Senator Janea Holmquist and ask if they would put the horse park back in the budget.
