Thanks to Progressive Majority (a great organization that recruits and helps progressive candidates throughout Washington) for pointing this out:
Early this year Progressive Majority recruited Maria Osorio for an unexpected open seat on the Toppenish School Board (we had been tipped off that the seat would be open), in Central Washington state. The Toppenish School Board, despite her abundant qualifications, decided to appoint a local minister who submitted a one-paragraph application …. well, HE LIVED IN THE WRONG DISTRICT!!!!
So the board had an emergency meeting last night and appointed our (Ed. Note: Progressive Majority’s) candidate Maria! She will be fighting to keep the seat this fall against two other candidates.
I’m not sure why the Yakima Herald hasn’t covered this yet but they should GET ON IT! The folks from Progressive Majority say this is the second time this has happened in Toppenish.
