“Mayor Dave Edler on Tuesday night added himself to the growing list of Yakima residents calling for future city councilman Rick Ensey to step down over a blogging scandal tied to his election campaign. Edler announced his position at the beginning of Tuesday night’s council meeting, saying he felt motivated to respond after hearing from numerous community members.
“My hope is that he would heed the advice. I think it would be the best thing for the community if he did,” Edler said in an interview after the meeting.
“I think that what has happened has really hurt our community. I think the community is outraged,” he added.
Ensey could not be reached for comment Tuesday night. He earlier said he hopes the situation will blow over once he’s had a chance to prove himself on the council.
The Mayor is right. Ensey should resign. Ensey’s behavior represents colossal bad judgment. He has allowed himself to be a party to duplicity. I can’t imagine anyone on the Yakima City Council will ever trust him. They will think that he is saying things behind their backs. How can he ever be an effective City Councilmember if he has no trust from his colleagues?
Do the right thing, Rick….RESIGN.
