OK….good thing that day is over. Like expected, the state legislature enacted the 1% property tax cap.
It was not a shining moment. The Governor and the legislature should’ve waited for regular session and looked at some other progressive alternatives.
That said, I was surprised to see this blog go after Speaker Frank Chopp so strongly.
Let’s be real here. Our democratic state legislature had a track record of accomplishment that makes Democrats in other states jealous. Could we be smarter sometimes? Yes. Could we be bolder? Yes.
But, it’s an impressive record. Health Care For All Kids. Ending The Supermajority. Eliminating Toxins like PBDEs. Major Investments In Transportation Infrastructure. Clean Cars. Cleaning Puget Sound.
I agree that we could come up with a more progressive way to provide tax relief. But, maybe I’ve been out of Seattle too long. The legislature’s record looks pretty good from here.
