From the Governor’s campaign..

Sine Die Update

In January, Governor Gregoire laid out her goals for the 2008 legislative session – making investments to strengthen our economic foundation against national economic woes, improving our communities and making our neighborhoods safer. Yesterday, the Legislature adjourned and we are proud to report real results for Washingtonians:

Strengthen Our Economic Foundation

· Saving $835 million in budget surpluses and $446 million in the Rainy Day Fund to help stabilize our economy against national economic woes

· Increasing salaries for teachers so our children learn from the best

· Investing in job training and workforce development programs to stimulate the state’s green collar economy

Improve Our Communities

· Implementing a realistic, accountable strategy to limit Washington’s greenhouse gas emissions to address the threat of global warming

· Improving access to affordable housing and providing assistance to families in danger of losing homes because of the national housing crisis

· Increasing safeguards for seniors under care and children in potentially dangerous situations

Make Our Neighborhoods Safer

· Continuing Operation Crackdown to track and arrest sex offenders

· Creating a unified sex offender registry

· Funding disaster relief programs to help communities recovery from December floods in Southwest Washington

These results from Governor Gregoire and the legislature are a bipartisan commitment to helping Washington families build more prosperous, healthier and safer lives.

Campaign Announcement

Although the campaign can legally raise money now that the Legislative Session has adjourned, the Gregoire campaign will refrain from soliciting contributions while the Governor is reviewing and signing bills. We are planning to formally launch the Governor’s re-election in early April. Stay tuned for more details….
