Bruce Almighty: a wild and crazy guy

Bruce Smith, editor of the Yakima Valley Business Times, latest editorial in his June 13, 2008 edition continues his wild attacks on the Library. Commenting on Monica Weyhe’s departure, Bruce exonerates the two newest board members, Jerry Maggard and Jim Barnhill. He even goes so far as to predict that the next appointed Board member will be just like Maggard and Barnhill. Here’s one of his scribblings:

Her management style has rubbed the last two new library trustees the wrong way and my guess is she would have done the same to whomever is appointed in January when a veteran trustee with more than 15 years on the board is expected to be replaced.”

That statement tells us that County Commissioner, Mike Leita, will appoint a Smithite to the Board to join Maggard and Barnhill in January. Smith goes on to say:

“The place is coming apart at the seams with internal spats among trustees that were certain to come to a head soon.”

What he’s NOT saying here is that since Maggard and Barnhill were placed on the board their agenda has been divisive to say the least. THEY are responsible for these internal spats. But these guys are Smithites so now the appropriate thing to do in the Almighty’s view is cleanse the board with more Smithers! The crazed one continues:

“I know it’s unlikely, but the next course of action seems pretty clear to me. The library trustees who have been there collectively for decades need to take responsibility for their poor stewardship over the last several years and also offer their resignations.”

Wow! Are you listening Mr Leita? Bruce wants to replace the entire board. And why? Because of their longevity! He claims the library is in a ”sorry state of affairs.”

Of course Bruce Almighty will not point out any library dysfunction nor poor stewardship. Facts need to be ignored in his quest to create chaos. He’s achieved a couple of goals already:

1. Put clones on the board

2. Dump Monica Weyhe.

Now he simply needs Leita to follow the rest of the script. Too bad there aren’t any checks and balances in Yakima County. An elected democrat here and there would diminish Bruce Almighty’s influence over the right winged policy makers.
