The Associated Press went after a website that links to AP stories last week saying they were violating the Copywrite Act “Fair Use” law. This could have a draconian effect on the ability of bloggers to link to stories from news sites. I don’t know many blogs that could pay for their own reporters (especially this one!) so it would severely limit our ability to comment on news stories. It also severely limits our ability to back up our opinions with links to articles or quotes that back up our opinions.
I’m no copywrite lawyer but I’m pretty sure that this lawsuit will get dismissed. If not, anyone out there want to do some free reporting? Would someone want to have “The Other Side Online, Capitol Correspondent” as their job title?
