Sure, Yakima County delivered 11,145 more votes for Governor Gregoire this election than it did in 2004 – still Republican opponent Dino Rossi won every county in Eastern Washington plus six on the West Side to dominate the county scoreboard 29 to 10.Gregoire kept it close in Spokane County, losing by just 8,123 votes as per 11/11 results from the Secretary of State’s website.
Rossi hit it big in the Tri-Cities coming out with a plus 27,876 or 30.16 percent in Benton County and 6,219 or 67.78 percent in Franklin County.
Based on this election, the Tri-Cities has clearly become the stronghold for Republicans in Eastern Washington, while the Rs are losing ground in Yakima and Spokane counties – an indication of the growing strength of those Democratic organizations.
In the end, however, none of the above statistics mattered as King County voted 64.19 percent for the governor trouncing Rossi by 235,990 votes.
As of Veterans Day, Gregoire had an 181,262-vote lead statewide over Rossi winning by a margin of 53.15 percent to 46.76.
Once again, King County proved to be King Kong.
