Want ethics in city government? Dump Cawley and Lover in November and you're half way there!

Yakima Mayor Dave Edler wholeheartedly endorsed Sonia Rodriguez suggestion of a code of ethics for the Yakima City council in a speech to the Chamber of Commerce the other day. Later, Edler pointed out that he was flat lied to by fellow council members resulting in 4 of them violating open meetings laws.

Reaction? Here’s what ‘some council members are saying’ from the Herald story:

Some council members believe the proposed ethics ordinance is an attempt to make them look bad — and boost political points for Rodriguez, who is seeking to retain her seat — in the wake of Yakima’s open-meetings controversy. The ethics proposal was quietly deferred last week to a study session for further review.

It’s easy to see who’d be shallow enough to say stuff like that. They are all of Bruce Smith’s puppets. 2 can be eliminated in November making the other 2 powerless. That is the outcome that this city needs to see to move forward. We deserve better than these cesspool politicians of which the words “truth” and “openness” and “accountability” are so flagrantly trumpeted and yet ignored. Remember these are the same incompetents that want to manage our city budget, even though none of them have any expertise or even good ideas. They’ll have to meet at a card game to get their next marching orders.

This blog and the local paper are just amazing. Our city is facing crumbling infrastructure, huge budget deficits, gang problems,…… and all you have heard about is who closed Yakima Avenue for a fight?”, bikini clad coffee servers, and now a meaningless ethics policy to help get Sonia’s name in the press. You are right Ron. This falls election will reset the makeup on Council and perhaps we can then deal with the real issues facing our fair city.

A policy to conduct one’s self ethically is meaningless? I would think that with all that has been reported in the paper, that every council member would make a concerted effort to let the citizens of Yakima know that they embraced ethical behavior. Why would that make them look bad? Do they realize that to do otherwise leaves an impression of preferring to act unethically??

Maybe they’re worried that they won’t be able to abide by a Code of Ethics- all the more reason to adopt one right away.

Some council memebers believe the proposed ethics code will make them look bad? I guess if the 3 amigos weren’t in attendance at the speech then it must be so.
