The following is a statement from the Yakima Firefighters Union:
ENDORSEMENT ANNOUNCEMENT
Yakima Firefighters endorse Sonia Rodriquez, Paul George and Ben Soria for Yakima City Council. In the July and August union meetings the firefighter’s union body unanimously voted to endorse and financially support these candidates for the 2009 Yakima City Councils Primary and General elections. All three candidates were well prepared with strategic vision and an action plan to bring hope and prosperity back into our Yakima community. Their words were well received by the Yakima Firefighters, especially after Bill Lover, Maureen Adkison, Rick Ensey and Micah Cawley voted “No” to allow existing cross trained, on-duty firefighters to provide paramedic services to our Yakima Citizens. Their reasons and motives for voting “No” are still in question by the Firefighters.
The rather somber spirits of Local 469 members were rejuvenated by all three candidates’ vision for Yakima’s future. In this past year, firefighters supported an EMS Levy in 2009 which was soundly defeated. Bill Lover, Rick Ensey and Micah Cawley were instrumental in collaborating and organizing with Bruce Smith, a local Business magazine publisher, to defeat the 2009 EMS Levy. This levy would have provided the Yakima Community with 12 firefighters and one dispatcher.
The Yakima Fire Department is currently at the same staffing levels that existed in 1973.
In the September union meeting the Honorable Mayor Mary Place (Fmr.) will be speaking to firefighters and their support for her campaign is anticipated.
Very well put, Firefighters. The voters are presented with a tremendous opportunity to remove Lover, Cawley and Adkison in this election and restore integrity and independence from outside influence. Ben Soria, Paul George, Sonia Rodriguez and Mary Place are all independent people with vision and impressive backgrounds that bode well for leadership of the City of Yakima. Hats off to the firefighters who ran an honest campaign for their EMS levy vs the outright lies and distortions of the B.S.ers. and the leadership of the Republican Party.
Perhaps this is a new day for the City of Yakima. Something to the two alternatives that we currently have in the Yakima City Council.
Right now we have our choice of the following:
1. A Staff driven government
2. The current City Council of “NO” new ideas driven government
Something where rational people would do what is best for the people of Yakima and the future of the City would be nice and downright refreshing.
It wont matter who is on the city counsel as long as Dick the wizard of Zaisevill is around to pull the strings. Zais is the true puppit master of Yakima NOT Bruce Smith,
Really Stir, did you read the emails from the 3 amigos and mom concerning Zais? It seems to me if anyone is pulling the strings it is those 4, who we need to replace.
You’re correct Hector, Yakima is being held back by the current antics of the aforementioned.
so much for non partisan City Council races.
your right meatheader the city is being held back by antics of the puppet master and grand wizard Zais.

The 3 amigos are Lover, Cawley, Ensey, and “Mom” Coffey. She is like the Ma Parker to the rest of the crime family. Sorry, Zais is not a 4th member.
