Good turnout for Health Care reform

A head count of 90 progressives at Millennium Plaza today heard local advocates for health care. Speaking at the event were Fr. Ron Patnode, Don Hinman and Anita Monoian. The group then walked over to the Tower building to deliver 84 “support for health care reform” signatures to Senator Murray’s office and Doc Hastings office.

The NO to everything group showed up to show off their complete lack of ideas and knowledge on the subject. What a contrast!

Astro-turf… Haha, just kidding. You guys are much more hardcore than those partisan hacks the republicans.

  2. randall says:

It was very impressive those 90 people, wanting health care reform now for all, walking down to Senator Murray and Doc Hasting’s office to deliver all the signatures. Keep up the good work…

  3. Neal says:

Which 6 out of the 90 didn’t sign?

HR says there were 55 of you…One of you ace reporters can’t count..

  4. randall says:

If you and others did not sign the “support for health care reform” petition you can go to http://my.barackobama.com/page/content/organizingforhealthcare2?source=issue_page to do so.

The problem with ace reporter that could not count was he or she did not have health care so he or she could not afford to buy glasses–just a thought…

  5. Neal says:

Heath care provides free glasses for everyone too?? WOW..I can’t wait.

Personally, I think we all have a right to a free car too…

  6. HectorFranco says:

Thanks Randall, I just finished signing on to support health care reform.

The poor souls that I saw during our rally looked raggedy to me. They looked like people that would most benefit from universal health care but they are too scared to lose thier medicare and medicaid.
Does that make sense to anyone?
    Neal?

It appears as if they are being manipulated through fear by that insurance guy representative organizer and they do not know any better.

  7. randall says:

Neal, I did not say that he or she would get free glasses. I did say that he or she could not afford to by them. I mean that he or she has to pay so much for health care insurance or the insurance company just decided to reject his or her claims that he or she has to pay more out of his or her pocket.

EVERYBODY DOES NOT MIND PAYING FOR HEALTH CARE JUST THEIR FAIR SHARE. The insurance companies want .35 out of every dollar for profit. FYI Las Vegas casinos only make .15 out of every dollar in profit.

Oh, go to a free taping of Oprah to get your free car…

  8. Drew says:

Randall, do you see where the cons want to take this conversation? They’ve become so desperate, they had to come up with “if you provide this for free, soon they’ll want everything”, even though none of that has ever happened in all of the other countries with universal healthcare (which is, by the way, every other industrialized country in the world). Neal knows that, while a car is very important to most people, it’s not nearly as important as staying healthy. Other nations figured it out a long time ago that health care IS a basic human right, and not a privilege. When your society decides to make it accessable only to those that can afford it, and then allows the providers to charge whatever they want under the guise of a “free market”, you further break up that society into “the haves and have-nots”. The cons have further alienated the working poor with their town hall comments of “just grow up and buy the insurance”, and “maybe you should budget better”, or “get a second job”. Since they know that is not at the core of this issue, what they really want is for the country to be dividied up along socioeconomic lines. The cons like the idea of a large population of America falling into the have-not category.

  9. Neal says:

Ok, Drew..Randall..Hector… You all promise me as good or better health coverage as I have right now for less?? BRING IT ON…

If not, then yes, my ox getting gored does matter to me.

  10. Drew says:

Yes, neal, better coverage is out there, for much less than you are willing being gouged for now. No deductibles. No co-pays. And your overall outlay is around $1200 to $2000 annually, depending on what country you live in.
But as was said earlier, for the cons, it’s not about paying less, because they obviously like paying more and getting less. What you really want to maintain is the status quo where some people like yourself can get care, and others will have no choice but to do without. For the cons, a level playing field where a legislator (hastings) gets the same care as an unemployed warehouse worker, or a disabled teen, or a retired engineer, or a single mom, or self-employed man with cancer (my neighbor) is not accepatable. I know you’re paying a lot more than $100/month, and your insurance has clauses and provisos so they don’t have to pay 100% on a lot of things, and on many things, they will just refuse your claim. You’re getting screwed by the people who demand more of your money every year. For others that are working but can’t afford the monthly premiums and opted out a long time ago, a diagnosis of COPD or diabetes is either a death sentence, or at least an direct route to bankruptcy court (for the first time in American history, as the average insurance premium tripled from 2005 to the fall of 2008, bankruptcy from medical debts topped 64%).

  11. Neal says:

Drew, that vein in your neck is sticking out…Better calm down a might.

  12. Drew says:

You pay a lot more for your own care, neal, which includes such perks as a staff doctor with the insurance carrier who gets bonuses for denying treatment to as many patients as he can (while they take your money). You have the added feature of being denied coverage (even after you’ve already been accepted) if the carrier decides you have (or ever had) a serious pre-exisitng condidtion, like a skin rash, or headaches (while they take your money). And you can always expect for your premiums to increase, but you should never expect the coverage to increase as well (while they take your money).
Hastings has a pretty good plan- covers nearly everything, has little or no deductibles or co-pays, and (here’s the best part) you’re paying for it. The con who tells you that government-managed coverage is a form of socialized medicine is getting the same, and you are paying for it. This is a flagrant example of the cons supporting a “have/have not” society, and telling you it’s good for the country.

  13. Drew says:

We know you’re not shocked to find that the republicans, and a lot of neo-cons, are lying about healthcare reform, because they don’t want to see cash-cow customers like neal go away. Apparently, AARP is on the side of democracy, and understands that basic health care is a right for every cictzen and not for a privileged few:

    randall,
your wrong on your 30% profit,
according to Douglas Elemendorf from C.B.O it is 3%, please get your facts correct.
You discredit the cause when you repeat lies.

  15. Drew says:

You’re not actually trying to tell us that the insurance companies (Aetna, Blue Cross, Cigna, etc.) are only getting 3% profit after ripping off their customers.

  16. seagal says:

FYI – the actual count for the rally was 99 with signatures gathered from 84. Those along with 1500 other signatures from the 4th CD were delivered to Doc’s office only. Anyone who has been to a march or rally knows that counting is challenging and it depends on when you count! Several folks walked up during their lunch hour, lent their support but failed to sign in. All were appreciated. And the conduct of the attendees was outstanding even though the protesters attemted to block the sidewalk in front of the Chinook tower and stood directly in front of the door. A few protesters tried to engage the rally folks but no one took the bait. Congratulations to the attendees for your restraint and your positive attitude!

  17. Drew says:

seagal- have you heard of some of the stories of the hecklers at the townhall meetings across the country who stood up and started shouting and yelling over the people at the microphones who were pleading for affordable health coverage? Worse, a conservative representative back east told a single mother working a minimum-wage job that she just needs to “grow up and buy the insurance”.

  18. seagal says:

Last night RNC Chair Michael Steele was pathetically unsympathetic to a town hall attendee’s story of the denial of coverage for her parent’s cancer – she got a snotty lecture. Gee, only if you heckle Dems is it legit public discourse.

  19. Drew says:

I saw that too. These are not the conservatives of old, who actually believed in family values and protecting America. Eisenhower would be truly ashamed of what the Reaganites are trying to do to our democracy.

  20. plaintruth says:

    Drew, get the facts
    cbo.gov,
you might find helpful to get the facts. Wrong numbers you keep repeating doesn’t make them facts, just more bs.
Nancy Pelosi, Steny Hoyer comments that preventitive health care saves money is wrong, according to Douglas Elemendorf of CBO.
    Happy Reading!

  21. plaintruth says:

Very nice ad featuring Senator Murray and Senator Cantwell, however it is funded by those mean Drug Companies, evil profit taking companies that produce life saving medicine for people in need.

  22. Drew says:

pt- are you saying that some of the folks that came to the gatherings to speak out for universal healthcare were not heckled by conservatives? Are you also suggesting that preventative healthcare does NOT save money? Lastly, you’re not serious that the drug companies just handed over their medications to the sick, purely out of altruistic and charitable intentions, are you, (instead of setting prices astromically high, pricing millions out of the pharmaceuticals market)? It is apparent that those GOP fundraisers you’ve been hanging out at as one of their groupies has turned into meth parties. Bill Hinkle runs a rehab joint in Selah we should get you into. In a few weeks, you’ll be all cleaned up and springtime fresh (you’ll still be a republican; just not suffering from CRPD)

  23. randall says:

I am sorry, they were right all along there are death panels. Read this at http://mariopiperni.com/health-care/the-real-death-panels.php

  24. Drew says:

Please Randall, don’t you see that some kinds of death panels are good (very good if you the CEO of an insurance carrier). You’ll never hear them talk about this kind of truth. They don’t want to bite the hand that picks their pockets
