Kennewick- Former U. S. Marine Jay Clough (D-Kennewick) will announce his campaign Monday for the 4th Congressional seat currently held by Representative Doc Hastings.

“I expect our Representative in this district to work harder. As I traveled throughout the district in the last few months, I heard over and over that people did not see or hear from Doc Hastings. We need a representative who is proposing new solutions and providing real leadership. Someone who regularly travels to all parts of the district to listen to people’s concerns and bring common sense solutions back to Congress, “ said Jay Clough.

Jay Clough attended Kennewick High School in Kennewick, Washington and graduated in 1995. While a student, Jay was a member of the Kennewick High School and Riverside High School football teams.

From August 13th 1995 until August 13th 1999, Jay Clough was employed by the U.S. Marine Corps as an active duty light armored reconnaissance infantryman.

In 1999, after being honorably discharged from the U.S. Marine Corps, Jay Clough began his studies at Central Washington University. After 2 years of study, Jay Clough declared his major of Asian Pacific Studies with a minor in Philosophy, and later added a second Major of Chinese Language and another minor of Political Science.

Jay Clough currently works out at Hanford as a subcontractor for Washington Closure Hanford ensuring safety and training requirements are met on the cleanup process.

Jay Clough is also active in Second Harvest and working with United Way through his work at Washington Closure Hanford. He is scheduled to begin working with Junior Achievement in December.

“We can have leadership that focuses on getting Central Washington new good-paying jobs. We can have leadership that realizes that our health care system is not working and is part of working toward a solution.

We can have a representative that regularly visits every part of the district and actually listens and brings those concerns back to our nation’s capital.

I served proudly as a Marine because I believe this is a great country. I decided again it was time to step up to serve, to listen, and if elected, to lead on the key issues facing Central Washington,” said Jay Clough.

wow..I want this guy for MY rep. Trade ya…

  2. Drew says:

Hastings is saying the same thing.

  3. Neal says:

Yeah, I’m sure Hastings is losing sleep, drew.

Will this guy at least keep one address, unlike Fearing?

  4. Drew says:

I just want him to answer his phone, and his emails. Of course, Hastings has no problems sending out unwanted junk snail mail, reminding us how much good he’s doing for America. We’re still just waiting for him to respond to questions. Everyone else does.

  5. seagal says:

Several weeks after the health care rally in Yakima and my inquiry to Hastings, I got a snail letter from Hastings with the repugnant’s talking points telling me the health care reform will not be good for me – ugh! He does not represent me and 40% of the population in the 4th CD who did not vote for him. Good luck to Jay – it takes courage to step forward, raise money and devote a year of your life running against an incumbent.

“ugh! He does not represent me and 40% of the population in the 4th CD who did not vote for him.”*** You are right obviously he is representing the other 60% of the population that voted for him. However..I do wish Jay good luck, I am looking forward to a good race.

  7. seagal says:

And that was exactly my point, Jason. The theory is that your representative is supposed to represent “all the people” of their district, taking all opinions into consideration, and perhaps compromising occasionally. 40% of the population is a whole lot of people to continually ignore, don’t you think?

  8. Jason says:

No I do not think so, because a representative IS supposed to represent the people of their district, but no one can please everyone, so you try to make the best decisions you can that represent the majority of the people 60% is way more than 40% so you have to understand that politically you are in a minority.
What do you want him to “compromise” on? How do you know he DIDN’T compromise occasionally?

  9. Drew says:

Usually, when a con legislator like Dick Hastings refuses to engage in any dialogue with people of opposing views, it can be safely said that he isn’t representing the people.

  10. mainstreeter says:

I doubt 60% thought not voting at all towards a VA outpatient center would vote the same way doc did.

  11. Jason says:

As I have said in other posts…I believe we should have term limits on all of our representatives…and as I said earlier, I am looking forward to a good race.
