Racism- just another of the many services provided by republicans for the holidays

Ummm, we thought the republicans were hoping to draw more latinos into their “big tent”. These kinds of tactics don’t work very well towards that goal.

“Grammy-winner Jose Feliciano has gotten an apology after accusing a pair of radio producers of trashing the spirit of Christmas by using his popular holiday song, “Feliz Navidad,” for a racist musical spoof about undocumented immigrants.

Feliciano released a statement Wednesday saying that he was “revolted beyond words” and that the song was never meant to be “a vehicle for a political platform of racism and hate.”

“When I wrote and composed ‘Feliz Navidad,’ I chose to sing in both English and Spanish in order to create a bridge between two wonderful cultures during the time of year in which we hope for goodwill toward all,” the Puerto Rico-born singer said.

The parody, titled “The Illegal Alien Christmas Song,” was created by radio producers and writers Matt Fox and A.J. Rice and was posted in mid-December on the Web site for Human Events, a Washington-based conservative weekly publication founded in 1944.

Web site editor Jed Babbin apologized Wednesday and said the song would be removed from the site. The link to the song’s page was no longer available by Thursday.

“We regret any offense that Mr. Feliciano may have taken from this parody,” Babbin said in an e-mail sent to The Associated Press.

One passage from the parody, sung in English, riffed on the stereotype of Latino immigrants as heavy drinkers, while another said “illegals” were going to “spread bubonic plague.”

Born in Lares, Puerto Rico, in 1945, Feliciano was raised in New York City and wrote “Feliz Navidad” in 1970. It is one of the most popular Christmas songs in the world.”

So does everything foreboding and aberrant have a Republic odor to it? I dislike this kind of racism exercise as much as you do, but how can we be sure it has Republican roots? Are we quite sure that this sort of hatred cannot arise from a Democratic gutter? I know that we like to think we are gorgeous people, but there is also the chance that there are those among us ready to make flirty-flirty with accusations that will raise tempers and create discord among the brethren. I think there is just as much chance this could have come from Republican, Democratic, Independent of Agnostic camps that want to see a firefight. Whoop

So, I looked up their website….here are some headlines:

Obama’s Message: Be Afraid, Very Afraid
    by Oliver North

DeMint & Ensign: Harrycare is Unconstitutional
    by Connie Hair

Ammunition Control by the Obama Administration
    by A.W.R. Hawkins

and those are just a few. Ann Coulter is also a frequesnt contributor.

C’mon, Whoop. Those are not Democratic headlines.

    Sorry Whoop

Just one more example of the goosestepping democrats that spout nothing but hate for anything but their party line. No mid point just far far left.

By the way I hate this song have never liked it, than again I don’t like here come Santa Claus and white Christmas or rap. So I guess that would make me a white, con, bigot in the eyes of most on this board.

STICK: having had a hardscrabble childhood, gave me unfulfilled expectations about Christmas too, and I have to swallow hard to make it through, but it has gotten easier lately for reasons I don’t understand myself. About not liking the music, I can dig that. I like the lights, the food, and most of the gatherings, but not the downhill slide to previous memories. I know, it’s my problem.

CORIE: Nice work on your part. I had no idea the source of the writing. And…anybody who prints Ann Coulter needs a new head with something inside to replace the pariah, desperado mentality. Personally, I think Coulter is just a charlatan–has found a lamp to rub and is dragging the shekels while the magic is still working. It proves my point that hedgehogs live in all parts of our society, and take shelter where the money is.

Having said that, nothing is totally black and white. We dare not miss an idea because it came from some netherland of which we have granted no approval previously. But, take my word for it, O’Reilly, Hannity, Limbaugh, Beck and the remainder of lesser dropouts are on my A-List of things to avoid, avidly. Whoop

  5. Whoopeedo says:

The Coulter statement goes for Oliver North, too.

  6. corie says:

I know what you are saying, Whoop…its just that we consistently try to frame the discussions in numerous ways in an attempt to show cons a different view point. Have you seen it pay off??

  7. blahblahblah says:

Yep, racists are bad. Can you say Jeremiah Wright.

  8. Drew says:

Yes, I can. I can also say Trent Lott, George Allen, Jefferson Sessions, Richard Nixon, Geoff Davis, George Bush, Ronald Reagan, Geri Modrell, Hans Kliger, Jeffrey Sewell, Chip Saltsman, Rush Limbaugh, Salvatore Ballarino, Carol Carter, Dean Grose, Boyd Austin, Diane Black, Rusty Depass, Mike Green, Audra Shay, James Inhofe, Lamar Smith, James Hart, Tom Delay, Haley Barbour, Amy Tuck, Cass Ballenger, Ted Nugent, Barb Cubin, Sonny Purdue, Dick Hines, Bill Black, Paul Weyrich, etc., etc., etc.

All of these people are powerplayers in the GOP (fundraisers, consultants, campaign managers, candidates, politicians, spokesliars, or contributors). All of their public comments have basically gone unanswered by their GOP enablers.

  9. sundancekid says:

Ahoy Drew: I admire your fine list of do-nothings, but you forgot that land lubber, Doc Hastings. For example, from the January 2007 version of this blog, to whit:
    —————————

And The Month Isn’t Even Over….
    Wednesday, January 24th, 2007
In the last month, Rep. Doc Hastings has voted against increasing the minimum wage, reducing prescription drug prices, supporting stem cell research, and reducing our dependence on foreign oil….

Luckily, they’ve all passed despite the opposition of our congressman

    —————————-
Where did this POS Congressman come from anyhoo? And who on earth is he respresenting?

  10. Drew says:

Evening, Sundancekid…hope your holidays have been good to you. We were talking about republicons and racism (which would seem to go together these days). But you are right about Hastings. And if we need to know who Hastings is really representing, one only needs to see who fills his warchest when the election cycle looms on his horizon. Hastings’ kind of money doesn’t exist around these parts, so it’s no surprise at all that he has several big donors back east. West Virgina, Maryland, Kansas, etc., are all quite a ways from the 4th USLD me thinks. The GOP gets individuals to donate large sums to several different con candidates all over the country at once. Often times, the donors don’t even know the candidate they are giving to, or what district they may represent- they just know the party wants their money to go far, far away. This goes on in the Democratic party as well, but not nearly to the degree found in the GOP. It’s exactly why we need publicly-financed campaigns now and Dick Hastings is a classic example of how corrupt the system has become.
Right about now is when neal will make a remark about how I’m reading a book he calls the woodchuck liberal manifesto, or something like that- this shows that neal could care less about maintaining a functional democracy, because he can’t honestly debate the issues. Hastings is an embarrassment, collects a ridiculously large portion of his cash from outside of Washington State, and that should bother real conservatives. Hastings is one of the reasons we say we’re living in the best democracy money can buy.
