The War was illegally thrust on us

Estimates of one million people cursed the day and demonstrated against the beginning of the Iraq War. One million people throughout the world. Bush’s response was that he knew about them, but just did not agree with them.  A few days before the first bomb dropped, the Yakima Valley Peace Advocates Network sponsored a march for peace, leaving Calahan Park in Union Gap and marching south to the Sears parking lot and return. During that march and rally for peace, 300 people signed as supporters of peace. It was a wonderful feeling, even though young tuffs called us non-patriots and one man threatened  us with his car, and screamed “ragheads” at us.

Now, we find that more and more, people are calling for prosecution of certain leaders (read Bush and Blair) for having drummed up a war based on deception and contrived information (read Weapons of Mass Destruction, Yellow-Cake Uranium  imported from Niger). And so we went to war, and to top it all off, the White House uncloseted a CIA operative as the wife of Joe Wilson, the diplomat who said the Yellow-Cake story was a contrivance and an outright lie. Now, we are told that U.S. interests are trying to protect a pipeline route through Afghanistan,  so that it would not cross Iran <—This is only a muddled message, and whether it bears credibility is just a guess, but it is being said.

Bush was even so bold, to tell us in his State of the Union, that WMD did exist in Iraq and that the Yellow-Cake story was legitimate. There was also some scuttlebutt about aluminum tubes, which was also proven wrong. Bush’s contrivances even led Colin Powell to lie to the United Nations about certain trucks in Iraq.

If you and I had done what Bush and Blair did, deceiving the American people to the tune of trillions of dollars of debt, and now 4,000 precious lives, we would be deep in some solitary cell, eating bread and water and cockroaches.

Are kings, presidents and prime ministers immune from the letter of the law. Will we avoid prosecuting Bush and his cronies, Rumsfeld, Wolfowitz, Cheney, Libby, Rove, Bybee, Yoo and Bradbury?  The final three were legal advisors to George Bush and advised him that torture was OK and that he did not have to obey the Congress. I would like to think we will not let this just slip away, as we did with Richard Nixon. What do you think?

By the way, we have already had Cheney as President.

This is what I think…everything you wrote is your opinion, with no real facts…I do not agree with your assessment of the war in Iraq, or the idea of prosecuting “Bush and his cronies”.

Do you believe that Gore lied? For years we have been told about man made global warming, now we know it was all a lie and Gore was caught in another lie yesterday, while giving a speech in Copenhagen. What effect has HIS lies had on our economy, jobs, lifestyles, etc. look at all the money he has made on the lies he has told(kind of like Madoff). Maybe HE (Gore)should be prosecuted also.

  2. Whoopeedo says:

Very well, evade the question. I have no idea if Gore lied, but I will tell you that the entire scientific community is saying he’s right, with a few minor exceptions. Nice try, sidestepping the focus on Bush. We both know that Bush lied in much grander scale than anyone recently. In addition he choked off a lot of civil rights in order to push his war. How much evidence do you need? Corrupting the judiciary with the criminalization of Alberto Gonzalez. Trying to get Ashcroft to sign an extension of the Patriot Act, while Ashcroft was extremely ill on a hospital bed. Paying off the fine levied on Libby. And how about committing a war and allowing his vice president to make a profit from it. How gruesome can you get?

For the sake of humanity I hope you are correct–that there is no climate alarm. But, if you are wrong, I will be all over you. Trouble is, we may not know for sure for another decade–can you wait that long to grieve amore about your poor darling Dubya?

  3. mainstreeter says:

Of course it’s an opinion Jason, It’s called a “blog”

    Hello?

  4. corie says:

This is typical of most blogs, whoopdedoo…when the right can’t dispute facts, the ad hominems start.

It’s amazing, isnt it, that after everything we have learned in hindsight about this war and the actions leading up to it, that there is anyone left who can still defend the whole mess.

Besides that, the definition of a blog is a collection of people’s thoughts and opinions. Jason, you dont really want to go down that road where we require you to prove everything YOU post, do you?

And, at the very least, can’t you wait for a few on-topic posts to go by before you hijack the thread?

  5. Drew says:

Or maybe jason has no proof that Gore lied.

But the topic is President Cheney, his trained pet monkey Bush, and all of the illegal things they did to shove the world into a war based on lies. Every justification that the previous administration gave for going to war, they had to do an abrupt about face on, after they were proved to be wrong. If people within the Cabinet began to dispel their information, the White House just made an end run around them. As we now know, they had wanted go to war with Iraq for a long time, long before they arrived in D.C. Bush was even quoted when he was still the dictator of Texas that if he ever made it to the White House, he’d go to war with Iraq. And we know that post 9/11, the White House was urging intel experts to find a connection to Iraq, and not Afghanistan or Saudi Arabia. When those experts could find absolutely no evidence of the Baghdad-9/11 link, they were ignored.

It was never about 9/11. It was never about any terrorists. It was never about liberating the Iraqis from Saddam Hussein. They never had a plan to democratize Iraq (not surprising, when you see how hard the cons have tried to tear down democracy in this country).
This was a military occupation for commercial means, and American corporate interests involved in that occupation have prospered very very well indeed.

Afghanistan is turning into another Iraq- a protracted and meaningless military occupation with no end in sight. It’s a cons dream, and our President needs to end this now.

  6. mainstreeter says:

Bush/Cheney will go down worse than Nixon/Agnew. The lives lost

  7. Drew says:

Whoop, that was a good post. Well done. Thanks

  8. Whoopeedo says:

“It’s amazing, isnt it, that after everything we have learned in hindsight about this war and the actions leading up to it, that there is anyone left who can still defend the whole mess.”

    Totally amazing, Corie

  9. Jason says:

The entire scientific community does NOT say he is right, in fact there is proof out there that the scientists “fixed” their findings to support the global warming hoax.
Do you have proof that Bush lied? There is a lack of evidence but that does not prove he “lied” it just proves he was wrong…even Hillary Clinton thought there was evidence that supported our decision to go into Iraq.
This is a blog…that is why I can give MY opinion after reading another, the difference is, I use FACTS not left wing or right wing conspiracy talking points. The proof that I talked about are the emails recently released that show there was an effort to manipulate the scientific results.
new poll out shows that 44% people polled want Bush back in office, if Bush/Cheney is worse than Nixon/Agnew, what does that mean for Obama/Biden? 44% think Bush is better than Obama, and Obama’s approval rating is dropping fast.
You must be upset with Obama too, since he committed 30000 more troops to Afghanistan, he has not ended the war. You must be irate with Obama for continuing to fund the war and send MORE troops in.
Corie, you are right, I cannot dispute any facts, because there were no facts in the blog, you give me your “facts” and I will tell you the TRUTH about your “facts”

  10. mainstreeter says:

What poll did you pull that out of Jason? Facts?

  11. Drew says:

It appears Mr. FairandBalanced here got his number from republicon talking point sites. Many of them had gun ads, with a wavy-flag thing in the background.

  12. Neal says:

After all the talk about Tiger, Whoopeee just wanted to use the word “Thrust”

  13. corie says:

“you give me your “facts” and I will tell you the TRUTH about your “facts”

    hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

  14. Jason says:

    mainstreeter
The poll that “I pulled it out of” is the Gallup Poll…it is a fact, that 44% of Americans polled would rather have Bush back in office than Obama…if you want a link I can give you many…but I think I will give you this one, since it has a liberal view, and criticizes Bush, I know you will like that… http://www.prisonplanet.com/gallup-poll-44-percent-of-americans-want-bush-back.html The first paragraph says it all!

  15. Jason says:

    Corrie
I thought that was pretty good too…Hahahahahahahahahahhahahahaha

  16. mainstreeter says:

prison planet….now I listen to alex jones occasionally just to hear him scream mayday and something else but AJ was not a fan of Bush and is heheh haha… Jones is not a liberal.

  17. Jason says:

I have been re-reading these comments and I realized that as I am being accused of avoiding the question, and hijacking the post, I decided to read the post again, the question was about prosecuting Bush and members of his administration for what you think is an illegal war and torture. Then she wanted to know what WE ALL think. I answered her questions, first I said I did not agree with her assessment of the war in Iraq, because she had a lot of accusations, but no facts to back up her accusations. I do not think that the war is an illegal war and I do not believe that we tortured anyone – we used enhanced interrogations to get information that helped us prevent other attacks from happening.
I do not think that Bush lied…but if you want to prosecute Bush for “lying” we should also prosecute Gore for lying also.
I answered your question, I told you what I think, and I did not hijack the post, in fact I was the first and only one to comment on it and since then there has been NO ONE else to answer your question…they have been focused on me, not your question. Am I that powerful that I have to be taken down every time I post a comment? It feels good to be so powerful!

  18. Jason says:

    mainstreeter
I don’t know why you are talking about Alex Jones…Dan Carter wrote the article that I linked to…

  19. mainstreeter says:

Prison Planet is Alex Jones, along with InfoWars, etc.

    The title is
“Schizophrenic Americans: Poll Says 44% Want Bush Back”

  20. Drew says:

“Or maybe jason has no proof that Gore lied.”

  21. Drew says:

“…I do not believe that we tortured anyone – we used enhanced interrogations to get information that helped us prevent other attacks from happening.” You will never, ever be able to prove to yourself or the world that there were any attacks that were discovered by the use of “EI”. Prior to CheneyBush LLC being selected by the Supremes, we had no such thing as “enhanced interrogations”. Our own military, State Department, as well as rest of the free and civilized world, has always used the term TORTURE for those tactics, so Cheney just had to give it a new name.

Imagine the possibilities found in these creative semantics: I am a little low on cash this week, so I am going to head down to the corner Stop ‘n’ Rob and push a shotgun (which I bought without a background check) up the clerks nostrils and get him to empty the till. I’ll just have to call it “enhanced negotiations”, and I am sure the police and republicons will totally understand. Used to be called “armed robbery”, but for some of the simplest among the right, all it took was a new name to get them to throw away their principles.

  22. mainstreeter says:

Both of them should be prosecuted. Bush would probably rat out Cheney which would give us the leader of the operation.

  23. Jason says:

The Gallup Poll is NOT Alex Jones and Air America is not Alex Jones, and Dan Carter (who wrote the article)is not Alex Jones.

The proof I have that Al Gore lied is… http://www.telegraph.co.uk/earth/copenhagen-climate-change-confe/6815470/Copenhagen-climate-summit-Al-Gore-condemned-over-Arctic-ice-melting-prediction.html …maybe Gore did not get the e-mail, so their stories would match up.

  24. Jason says:

or lets imagine your wife and kids get kidnapped, and as police investigate, they catch one of the kidnappers, and he tells the police and you that the others will kill your family. You know that he knows where your family is, but will not talk anymore, would you just give up and say it’s ok, or do you use aggressive tactics to get him to give you the info you need, to prevent your family from being hurt? Where would you draw the line? I know were the line is for me.

  25. mainstreeter says:

Nice try jason, those who have been interrogators in the past say torture leads to false confessions.

Let’s imagine if someone outs a CIA operative and their contacts are blown putting other agents in jeopardy. Oh wait, that really did happen.

  26. Jason says:

nice try mainstreeter, you are repeating lib talking points that are false….now lets imagine we have a president that’s in over his head..oh wait we have that now.

  27. Drew says:

Actually, President Cheney DID out a CIA operative, though Libby, Rove, and Novak. That’s a violation of the law, and seriously jeopardized the safety of other agents.

We’re pretty sure that a society that allows the real cops to torture suspects is a society we don’t want to live in. Maybe China or Iran is the place for you.

  28. Jason says:

lib talking points: “torture” leads to false confessions…Bush and Cheney should be prosecuted for “war crimes, and lying…there is no such thing as enhanced interrogations… Gore is not lying… man made global warming is real… the Arctic ice will completely melt by 2014… it’s ALL Bush’s fault… we have already had Cheney as President…

  29. Jason says:

Police do not torture, but if MY family is in trouble I want someone that will push the limits and do what is necessary to save my family. If you would rather have your family die, I guess that is YOUR opinion, but I would want aggressive action taken, to save your family. I guess that’s the difference between us…I care more for you and your family than the bad guys, while you care more about keeping the bad guys comfortable than your family.

  30. Jason says:

“You will never, ever be able to prove to yourself or the world that there were any attacks that were discovered by the use of “EI”.”*** drew you will never, ever be able to prove to yourself or the world that we did NOT discover attacks and thwart them through the use of “EI”

  31. Drew says:

Good thing the burden of proof is on you to prove that torture works: otherwise, we as a civilized society have no moral justification to torture anyone, ever, lest we become one of those unjust and immoral regimes we are fighting.
Either way, the citizens don’t want the police torturing suspects, for two really important reasons that real cops are very familiar with: first, we still have that Constitutional protection that says a person is innocent until proven guilty, without exception (including your imaginary kidnappings of family members- you need to quit watching so much 24). Secondly, one of the high moral and ethical standards of this nation has always been that we do not torture, including things like waterboarding (up until 2002, anyway). Other countries around the globe have respected us for that, because they know that it never produces any usable information. It is classified as torture under the Articles of the Geneva Conventions, of which we are a signing member state.
Even Sean Hannity knows it’s torture.

  32. mainstreeter says:

Cheney should be waterboarded then. I want my family safe from terrorist like him

  33. corie says:

Jason, now that we are sending more troops to Afghanistan, now would be a good time for you to sign up so you can go over there and torture terrorists to your heart’s content.

  34. Drew says:

Corie, it’s also important to round up as many people as you can, and torture all of them. That way, you can be sure you didn’t miss anyone.

“We’re making enemies faster than we can kill them”
    Unknown

  35. Jason says:

    drew
“We’re making enemies faster than we can kill them”
    Unknown
it’s a shame we can’t kill our enemies any faster!

  36. Jason says:

    mainstreeter
explain to me how Cheney is a “terrorist”

  37. Jason says:

    Corie
You are so ignorant of what war is I have to laugh…we are sending troops to Afghanistan to KILL our enemies, not torture them.

  38. Drew says:

Yes, republicons know a lot about wars. They spend so much of our taxpayers dollars to make them.

CONS: never satisfied unless there’s some killin’, sufferin’, and dyin’ goin’ on.
